aScope 5 Broncho “superior or equivalent” to reusable bronchoscopes

A comparative study* presented at the World Congress of Bronchology & Interventional Studies found that the single-use aScope 5 Broncho “may represent a viable alternative to reusable flexible bronchoscopes for interventional pulmonology procedures in the bronchoscopy suite, operating room, and intensive care unit.”

The aScope 5 Broncho:

  • Had more degrees of flexion and extension with all accessory tools tested when compared with a reusable bronchoscope and other single-use bronchoscopes
  • Showed superior bending capability with an EDC valve catheter in the working channel
  • Was able to navigate with biopsy forceps in the right upper lobe apical segment during cadaveric testing

How do doctors rate the Ambu single-use bronchoscope?

A recent study1 showed a preference among physicians for the Ambu aScope 4 Broncho single-use bronchoscope and Ambu® aView™ monitor over standard reusable bronchoscopes they have used.

The preference may have been due to the quality of the imaging and the ability to bend up and down 180°.

Evaluation of aScope BronchoSampler™

Open-access peer-reviewed research
In this article, respiratory consultant, Dr. Suveer Singh, presents the results of an evaluation, which was based on procedures performed at Royal Brompton and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals.

The results of the analysis were published on Karger.com. Prof. Pallav L. Shah reviewed the data and co-edited the manuscript. Among other conclusions, Dr. Singh found that aScope BronchoSampler is quicker, easier and more effective than standard sampling solutions.

The world’s first bronchoscope with bioplastics

Bioplastic material has a lower carbon footprint

Sustainability is one of our company's four strategic focus areas. One concrete example of how we are innovating in the area of sustainability for single-use endoscopy is by introducing bioplastic material in our endoscope handles.

The ABS plastic used in the handles emits 70% less CO2 than handles made from purely fossil-based ABS plastic.* (Note that this reduction applies to the carbon footprint of the ABS plastic in the handle only, not the full lifecycle for the finished good.)

While there will be no difference in the look, feel and performance of our endoscopes, it the introduction of bioplastics is evidence of our commitment to environmental responsibility, and an important step forward in single-use sustainability. This innovation has been introduced in Europe and will be followed globally by the end of this year.

Learn how the world's first bronchoscope with a bioplastic handle reduces our carbon footprint.

Why Ambu uses bioplastics

*Based on cradle-to-gate LCAs on the raw material from the supplier. The LCAs compared ABS plastic made with 100% fossil-based feedstock with our new bioplastic ABS (which consists of 50% second-generation bio-based feedstock and 50% fossil-based feedstock).
