The decontamination life cycle

The decontamination life cycle affects the whole of an organisation and not just those areas reprocessing equipment. Establishing and implementing a comprehensive reprocessing quality control program, together with periodic retraining for staff on how to set up, sterilise, disinfect and store endoscopy equipment includes numerous steps that must be meticulously followed in order to minimise the risk of cross-contamination between patients.

Despite the attainment of acceptable standards at all stages of the lifecycle, there is nothing that suggests that bronchoscopes can be cleaned with 100% certainty; every time (1) as evidence shows that routine cleaning does not effectively remove biofilm from endoscope channels (2).

Read how single-use solutions such as the aScope™ eliminates the laborious, time consuming and error-prone disinfection process and ultimately increase patient safety.
