The NHS Plan
The NHS Plan constitutes the biggest change to healthcare in England since the NHS was formed in 1948. The document sets out how increased funding and reform aim to redress geographical inequalities, improve service standards, and extend patient choice.

System reform
Programme for a more responsive NHS. Central elements of the System Reform programme include patient choice, a new financial framework, more devolution and transparency, and strengthened accountability.

Tackling bureaucracy is an important DH responsibility. The Department needs not only to cut red tape and excessive form filling in the NHS, but to wean itself from the habit of micro-management. Emergency care programmes

The ESC is a national programme that aims to improve the emergency care experiences of both carers and patients, through enhanced working practices.

Statistics
The statistics branches within all government departments, together with the Office for National Statistics, form the Government Statistical Service.
Statistics are also provided to government by the Health and Social Care Information Centre. Statistics are used to inform debate, decision-making and research both within Government and by the wider community.
