Anna Price is the first nurse in the UK to be employed by an ambulance trust to thrombolise patients before they get to hospital - a move that has saved many lives. Anna works for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance and paramedic Service NHS Trust, where she trains paramedic and technical staff, audits the standards of care achieved and occasionally helps on emergency call-outs so potential heart attack cases.
" Sometimes lapses in procedure turn out to be the fault of the of the equipment rather than the staff. For example, a lot of the crews were not performing ECGs simply because the sticky dots used to affix the electrodes did not adhere properly to the patients' skin. Dots from a different supplier were tried and found to be much more effective."
