	Ambu introduces single-use videoscope – Ambu® aScopeTM Ambu has developed a single-use videoscope, a new product which supports the company’s market position within anaesthesia. aScopeTM combines conventional single-use technology with state-of-the-art new single-use electronics. "In my opinion, it is an exciting and innovative product that we are launching. Technological advances have made it possible to incorporate single-use electronics into our products, which is why we have been able to develop a very relevant product for hospitals. A product which has the potential of both improving the treatment of patients and increasing efficiency at the hospitals. It is too early to estimate the future market for our new product,” says Lars Marcher, President & CEO. About the new product Ambu® aScopeTM is a single-use videoscope which is used by anaesthetists to visualise the airways of patients being anaesthetised. When under general anaesthetic, patients typically cannot breathe unaided. The anaesthetists ensure that the airways are not obstructed and help the patient to breathe. Breathing is typically ensured by means of a laryngeal mask or through endotracheal intubation using an ET tube. With some patients, it is difficult to maintain breathing due to obesity, narrowings etc. of the neck and throat. In such cases, the anaesthetists currently use a reusable fibre-optic scope. Ambu® aScopeTM can be used as an alternative to the reusable scope. Ambu® aScopeTM consists of two parts: a single-use ergonomic hand-held control unit, which controls a flexible insertion tube which makes it easier to visualise the upper airways. The insertion tube has a built-in single-use camera with an LED and a channel for administering local anaesthetic. a monitor, where the anaesthetist can see the patient’s upper airways when he or she has to intubate a patient using an aScopeTM. Ambu® aScopeTM will be presented at the European congress for anaesthetists, Euroanaesthesia 2009, which will be held in Milan on 6-9 June 2009. Market for Ambu® aScopeTM The production of Ambu® aScopeTM will be run in over the summer and autumn of 2009, and the product will then be launched in Ambu’s main markets.
